The Last Supper and Lake Como don't exactly sound like they go together, but they did for us today. We wanted to see Leonardo's The Last Supper and people get tickets months in advance. A few weeks ago I started looking and couldn't get a thing. Remarkably, I found one tour that had a couple of places left and lucked out. The painting has been restored since I saw it 40 years ago--it was brighter. Also, they only let about 20 people at a time in (for 15 minutes) so it was a great experience.
We then--on the spur of the moment--we caught a train to Lake Como. My last time there was 40 years ago. It was still just as beautiful, but so many more people now.
We ate lunch overlooking the lake. Great food and views.
We saw a funicular in the distance, found it, and took it up to Brunate. Very spectacular!
Tomorrow it's off to Venezia.
