Day 5: Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius

This was a very busy day.  We started out at Pompeii, which was way more amazing than I thought it would be. Twenty-seven feet of ash fell on the town of 20,000 people which was horrible for them, but preserved a 79 AD city.  We were in a group of 8 people and even though the place was mobbed, our guide managed to keep us away from the crowds.  Yay, Francesca!  These 1st photos are of a bath house which had cold water, hot water, and steam.

The city was astounding. Loved the architecture and taking a walk into the past.

We went into the house of what was probably a merchant and there were beautiful frescos. There is still about a third of Pompeii that hasn't been excavated.

Francesca made sure to point out every phallic symbol in the place and there were tons.

Then we went to Mt. Vesuvius and I was crazy enough to hike to the top.  Probably not my best thinking, but I made it.  It was crazy steep.

Looking forward to chilling in Sorrento tomorrow.
